THE PROPOSED DUVHALODA NORTH AND SOUTH HYBRID ENERGY FACILITIES AND ASSOCIATED INFRASTRUCTURE NEAR TSHIPISE, LIMPOPO PROVINCE
Okavango Projects SA (Pty) Ltd is proposing the development of two utility-scale hybrid energy facilities and associated infrastructure on the Remaining Extent of the Farm Geluksdal 154 MT. The project site, the Remaining Extent of the Farm Geluksdal 154MT is situated approximately 16km southwest of the town Tshipise within the Musina Local Municipality and the Vhembe District Municipality. The proposed hybrid facilities will be known as the Duvhaloda North Hybrid Energy Facility and Duvhaloda South Hybrid Energy Facility with a combined generating capacity of up to 700MWac.
The Duvhaloda North & South Hybrid Energy Facilities will consist of the following key infrastructure:
- Monofacial/bifacial PV panels on fixed or tracking structures depending on technology available.
- Inverters and transformers.
- Underground cabling (up to 33kV) connecting PV modules, inverters, and the substation.
- Perimeter fencing with CCTV and access control.
- Overhead powerline (up to 132kV) linking Duvhaloda North to the IPP/Collector Substation.
- On-site substations and an IPP/Collector Substation (up to 132kV).
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Site offices, control rooms, workshop, visitors centre, Reverse Osmosis plant, and parking.
- Temporary laydown areas.
- Main gravel access road (up to 10m wide).
- Internal gravel roads (up to 8m wide).
- Temporary concrete batching plants (construction phase only).
The proposed Duvhaloda North & South Hybrid Energy Facilities triggers various activities identified in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998) Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations, 2014 (as amended), published under Listing Notices 1, 2 and 3. Consequently, a Scoping and Environmental Impact Reporting (S&EIR) process, as contemplated in Regulations 21 to 26 of the EIA Regulations, is required.
